Here at Covington Candles we put our heart and soul into each candle we create!
Before you light one of our candles, it is important that you know how to properly care for your candle. This will insure that you have many hours of enjoyment.
Please take a moment to follow our Safety and Care instructions below to achieve the best burning experience with your candle.
Safety and Care
Failure to follow our warning label instructions on the bottom of each candle can result in fire or injury.
Never leave a burning candle unattended and keep burning candles out of the reach of children and pets.
Never burn your candle on or near anything flammable (curtains, fabric covered furniture, flammable liquids, etc.), or for more than 3 – 4 hours at a time. Burning candles for more than 4 hours can cause the wicks to form mushrooms on the tips and soot to form and make the wick unstable. This would void your warranty. There is always a chance that wicks can pop, especially if not properly trimmed, and cause burning embers to fly out of the jar.
When you light your candle, allow the wax to create a melt pool to the outer edges of the jar. This will ensure your candle will burn evenly (no tunneling) and give you maximum fragrance throw.
Always burn your candles on a stable, heat-resistant surface. Never move or re-light a candle until the flame is out and wax is completely solid. If the wick becomes too long while burning, extinguish flame before trimming.
The jars do become hot when burning. Only handle candles after they have cooled down.
Do not burn candles in a draft (air vents, open doors or windows, ceiling fans, etc.). A draft can cause the candle to burn faster and uneven. The candle can also cause soot when in a draft. If you see the flame flickering, there is a draft and the candle needs to be relocated in a different area.
Before each use, trim the wicks to ¼", only when the candle is cool and in a solid form.
We recommend using butane lighters to light your candles instead of matches. Matches tend to cause soot and particles can fall into the wax. Always light your candle in an upright position. Both wicks should be lit on your candle at all times.
Be sure to not over trim the wick. If the wick is too short it will result in a low flame and the melt pool will not reach the edges of the container.
Do not burn your candle if the wax level is below ¼” from the bottom of the jar.
Keep candles out of direct sunlight and do not store in temperatures over 80 degrees. Candles can discolor or yellow when in the slightest sunlight. This will not in any way harm your candle. Temperatures above 80 degrees can cause your candle to bead or sweat. If this happens, you can place the candle in a refrigerator for a moment, until the moisture goes away.
You might notice what is called “wet spots” on the sides of your jars at times. These are not air pockets. As the candle wax contracts with the change of temperature, these “wet spots” can form. There is nothing wrong with this. It will go away as the candle warms up or is burned.
Remove all packaging before burning any candle.
